Hi guys, today I will be talking about the TLC show that I am in and talking about preparing for it. Okay well here it is, hope you guys enjoy!
THE DAY WE GOT THE CALL
So first, about three months ago, we got a letter from a girl
named Claire in London. She said she works for a TV company
name "Raw", and she had been trying to reach us for ages! She
asked us if we would like to be on this show called 2 in a Million,
where kids with genetic differences (for example "Goldenhar
Syndrome" like I have) get to meet one another. Honestly, when
she first reached us I was shocked; I never thought that I would
actually get to meet someone with Goldenhar! My parents and I
were so excited! Well of course we said yes otherwise I would be
writing about it. Anyways, for the rest of the day I was restless!
(Funny fact: Claire said it would look like we had a stalker on
Facebook when my mom logs back into her account! That is how
hard she tried to find us!)
WE MEET IN PERSON OVER SKYPE! RECRUITER MEETINGS #2
Then, we got to actually meet Claire over Skype! As soon as we
knew a little bit more about what was going on, Claire started to
ask a bunch of personal questions (to see if TLC thought that me
and the mystery person were a good personality match). Honestly,
I used to not talk about that kind of thing with strangers! So I
was surprised to see myself sharing with her all of my personal
things. Then TLC “met” me by watching those Skype videos with
Claire, and they said “yes! She’s the one! Of course they said yes
or again, I wouldn’t be writing about this awesome experience!
Anyways, we started to work out details of how my parents would
schedule off from work and getting us down to an unknown time
destination at the time, etc. But that was just the beginning of a
fantastic month! (BTW, we no idea where we were going and we
had no idea who we were going to meet. That was so we didn't
have to act surprised when this person and I learned who the
other person was. My parents didn't even know anything other
than we were going to *** <I can’t even mention where yet,
because the show hasn’t aired>!)
OUR FAMILY MEETS ABOUT ME BEING IN A MOVIE!
After starting to get things planned out for my family and I going
to this unknown destination, we took a little break and just let our
emotions come out! We had a family meeting or get together
whatever you want to call it, and we started just pulling out all of
our feelings and started to prepare ourselves for being filmed on
National Television for TLC! I was so excited and then another
feeling came over me, which was NERVOUSNOUS! I mean come
on, I'm not used to having a lot of cameras in my face! And
besides it was going on National Television! So yeah I was pretty
nervous. Actually, I used a similar technique to what I use if I'm
getting prepared for surgery! I just calm myself down and think
about what is going to come out of this experience. My parents
were so excited as well.
After we stabilized our energy, we started to organize big time
and get some hard-core Prep on! My mom was working so hard to
get all of the permissions and paperwork that the film crew
needed to be allowed (By Law) to film at our house and
everywhere else they filmed. My dad was working so hard on
getting time off from work. Even after the little meeting we had
with our family, we were still really excited and ferociously happy
to have this opportunity. So even though we already balanced our
energy a lot, we still had to prepare ourselves even more for all
the filming and traveling that laid ahead.
MEETING THE FILM CREW IN PERSON!
Then we met the film crew in person at our home before we
started to shoot the documentary episode. It was nice too know
whom we were working with before we started to film. The next
day we started filming. At first I was pretty nervous as they
were shooting, but then I just became comfortable with the
camera. Also, the guy who was holding the camera was very
awesome at his job and he didn't make me feel like I was rushed
which was very helpful for me. First subject he filmed was me
“getting out of bed in the morning”. In case you don't know, I
have a sleeping machine that helps me not to snore. (Also, we
actually filmed me “getting out of bed” when it was 2 in the
afternoon!) I truly enjoyed acting that part ‘cause it was
funny. Then, we started to do some interviews about me, who I
am, my life, and why I am so excited to meet someone who has
Goldenhar like me, etc.
After doing some interviews, I got filmed at my school! (PS. I go
to a homeschool.) Filming at my home school was pretty fun
because my friends were there.
ON THE ROAD TO MEET MY MYSTERY FRIEND (can’t
mention his/her name yet – have to wait to tell you once the
show has aired!)
Then after we were finished filming at my house, we packed up
and headed on up ***! On the road up to the airport, I was so
psyched to be meeting this new person, and the two of us became
friends in a blink of an eye ; Literally! Also when my family and I
were on the plane, my Royal Frenchel service dog "Tuki" was on
the plane with me being the awesome little girl she always is.
When we landed in ***, we went to our hotel and went to bed
because when we got to the hotel, it was 10 p.m. Washington
State time, which means that it was xxx p.m. in there!
HELLO *** AND HIS FAMILY!
When I woke up the next morning (the day I met *** and family),
I was so thrilled to know I would be meeting a soon to be
awesome member of my family-type friend. When we were in the
car going to ***'s house, I was squirming in my seat I was so
excited and thrilled to be meeting *** and family! When we
arrived at their house and when I saw them standing outside on
their porch, I nearly cried!. After getting to know them a little
bit, we went inside their house and had hot chocolate! Mmmm!
Anyways, back to the point. We learned a bit about each other's
families and what *** was affected with. At first, when *** and I
met each other, it was a little awkward I have to admit. But after
we got over the awkwardness of the situation we became
immediate friends literally within 5 minutes of knowing each
other. I am really lucky to have a friend like me who has
Goldenhar, because we can relate to each other. Knowing *** is
such a pleasure and a gift for me. *** is such a wonderful person
and so is ***’s family.
While we were shooting the show, *** needed to go to the
doctors for a check up. So we flew down to Denver to go to ***'s
doctor’s appointment with him. Believe it or not, it was ***'s first
time on a plane! So Tuki decided to help out a little bit by sitting
on ***’s lap and calming *** down. After all, *** really enjoyed
being on a plane and Tuki was glad to help.
After we got off the plane, when we were making our way to the
hotel, there were these 2 women who dissed ***’s and I’s
appearance! How snide! The way I found out is that ***’s mom was
all of a sudden really quiet and wouldn’t explain why. I never
learned what happened until much later, when my mom told me
these two women said: " they should keep children like that in
their own place away from the public!.” My reaction - WHAT THE
HECK YOU JERKS! WE ARE PEOPLE TOO YOU KNOW!!! (Inside
my head.) Let’s just say it’s a good thing that my mom didn’t hear
that comment until way later.
WE SAY GOODBYE!
After ***'s doctors appointment, we had to say goodbye. It was
time for a day off, so we had most of the last day to ourselves.
Honestly, this was some of the only “normal time” we had for
getting to know each other not being on camera. I wanted to
Stay Longer and be with my newfound BEST FRIEND. So that is
why I started to bawl after we said goodbye.
And that is my story for the TLC show I was on. Hope you peeps
enjoyed and I will see you guys later..... Peace!
